Skin Cancer Removal
Concern
Skin cancer on the face is particularly common amongst people of Caucasian descent. In particular, the Basal Cell Carcinoma or the Squamous Cell Carcinoma can be found on noses and lips.
Treatment
This surgery can be performed under local anesthesia. The removal of these tumors with a safe margin is key in treating these conditions. The excised tissue must be examined by a pathologist to determine if the excision of the cancer is complete and the wound closure must only be performed after the pathologist has verified safe margin achievement. Reconstruction can be undertaken on the same day in some cases. The reconstruction technique depends very much on the localization of the tumor and its size with suture removal after 7 days.
Hospital Admission: Outpatient
Recuperation Time: 1-3 weeks
Post Surgery
Patient must cool the area and apply a compress for a day. Expect swelling up to one week.
Scar Correction
Concern
Injuries oftentimes leave mutilating scars on the face of the victim. Plastic surgery offers an array of techniques suitable for changing the scar and making it less evident.
Treatment
Depends on the extent of the scarring.
Hospital Admission: Outpatient
Recuperation Time: Depends on scar treatment
Post Surgery
Depends on scar treatment.
Earlobe Correction
Concern
Ear concerns are numerous and may be due to a birth defect or misuse. Torn earlobes, excessively large earlobes, keloid skin, cup ears and protruding ears are some of the problems that can be surgically corrected.
Treatment
Surgical reconstruction of the ear is possible. Depending on the scope of the intervention, local or general anesthesia may be used with suture removal within seven days.
Hospital Admission: Outpatient
Recuperation Time: 5-7 days
Post Surgery
Patients must cool the area and apply a compress for a day. Expect swelling for up to one week.
Nose Correction
Concern
The shape of the nose varies in many ways due to individually varying bony and cartilage structures within it. By surgically modifying these structures, the nose can be reshaped to have a more pleasing appearance. This does not necessarily improve any previously experienced restrictions of airflow as it affects the outer shape of the nose more than its interior function.
Treatment
This surgery is performed under general anesthesia with suture removal after 5 days.
Hospital Admission: Outpatient or 1 night
Recuperation Time: 2 to 4 weeks
Post Surgery
Patients must cool the face for two days. Depending on the involvement of bony structures, a supporting plaster on the nose bridge may be necessary.
Neck Lift
Concern
The aging face undergoes a lot of changes. The skin of the neck will lose its elasticity and may create unsightly folds and wrinkles. The underlying skin muscle of the neck may also develop a stringy appearance.
Treatment
The neck lift can be performed through small surgical incisions under and behind the ears or in the midline of the neck. It is usually performed under general anesthesia. Sutures will be removed after 1 week.
Hospital Admission: 1 night
Recuperation Time: 2 weeks
Post Surgery
Patient must cool the neck for two days. Expect swelling for up to one week and the removal of drains with the first dressing change.
